Why Buy a Solar Camping Lantern?

When you go camping most of us use a camping lantern at night to light the area away from the campfire. We usually place one on the picnic table to light the area where we're
playing games or have snacking food or s'more ingredients laid out.  The lantern's light allows for community activity.  Just think how your activities would change if you had to rely exclusively on flashlights.  Camping lanterns definitely serve a purpose and solar lanterns have some distinct advantages over propane and battery operated lanterns.

Most of us are aware of solar powered devices like hand held calculators and yard lights.  This source of power has been around awhile, but products like solar camping lanterns have
really improved over the years.  Solar lanterns are commonly used as the primary source of light in isolated areas where there is a lack of conventional electricity.  Any type of camping – from RV  to tent camping requires some sort of light source.  It may as well be a solar
lantern than being dependent on batteries and electricity.  These solar powered lights do require a light source or electrical outlet to charge them. You can use either the sun or manmade light to do this.  The only batteries that are required are for the solar light and these last a very long time.  Standard bulbs are replaced with LEDs (Light emitting Diodes) that give off a bright light and last for years.  They are also weather resistant, making them
usable in inclement weather.  A 2-6 hours charge in the sun will provide up to 15-20 hours of light.  Most of the solar camping lanterns on the market today have a lifespan of approximately ten years.  Think of the money you'll be saving on batteries and bulbs.

Safety is a key attribute to look for when you're selecting the right solar camping lantern.  Make sure they're CE certified, corrosion resistant, and water resistant or waterproof.  You want them to be able to hold up in the type of weather you'll be in when you're camping.  They are also safe for the environment, since they do not emit any emissions.  They are
safe for children to use, since there is no electrical shock to worry about and the lights are cool to the touch.

Some solar camping lanterns come with a removable solar panel that you can charge with a car charger or electrical outlet.  There are many brands and different sizes and shapes of solar camping lanterns.  Some of the solar lanterns available have an automatic feature that has them turn on when it gets dark or you can use the manual on – off switch.

There are even solar reading lights that you can clip to a book.  Think of the convenience of being able to read at night when you're camping without having to worry about batteries.  You just need to remember to charge it in the sun when it starts to run down.

Once you try a solar powered camping lantern, you'll be hooked.  There's a good chance your old camping lantern that is fueled by propane will be a thing of the past.

Fast Packing For A Camping Trip

If you're about to depart on a hastily arranged camping trip, then how can you go about packing nice and quickly? There are a number of different approaches that can be successful, but this article contains a useful overview.

To begin with, it's always particularly useful to have a list of all of the key items that you need to have with you on such trips. Creating such a list may sound rather dull, but it is likely to prove invaluable. Fortunately, it's a task that is only likely to need carrying out just the once.

With such a list, you can take off items as you pack them in the back of your car. This will help to ensure that you don't forget any critical camping accessories.

It is also useful to have all of your main pieces of camping equipment stored in one, single location. Why should you do this? The key advantage here is in making sure that you can quickly lay your hands on any piece of equipment within a few minutes.

You'll find that this makes it so much easier to pack at short notice.

Always carry out regular checks to make sure that you have all of the equipment that you need. Equally importantly, don't forget to make sure that you know how all of your different pieces of kit actually work. The last thing that you want, for example, is to be having a panic about whether your tent is watertight and whether you are capable of erecting it.

If you plan on making numerous camping trips during the summer months, you may wish to check your equipment at particularly regular intervals.

As you can see, packing in a hurry is made so much easier if you've already done most of your preparations well in advance. One of the great advantages to camping holidays is that you can often travel at relatively short notice. But such an advantage is soon undermined if you forget to pack some equipment that you really need.

Make the right preparations and you'll be sure to have a great trip.

Failing To Prepare Can Ruin Camping Trips

How do you approach camping trips? Maybe you think that the best way is simply to treat them as adventures that are planned at short notice. Although this can work very well, it's important to remember that you can also run into problems.

Does this mean that a camping holiday needs to be structured in the same way as other, more formal trips? Not necessarily, as such an alternative approach could take the fun out of your camping break. But failing to prepare at all can also lead to significant issues.

You don't want to have a horrible time resulting from the fact that you've forgotten to pack key pieces of equipment. It is easy to overlook the fact that changing weather conditions can have a massive impact on any holiday. This is particularly the case if you don't have suitable clothing and accessories with you.

There are some very simple steps that you can take to avoid such problems.

The first one is to buy all of the equipment you need well in advance of your trip. This gives you a great chance to test it all before leaving home. Take advantage of this fact.

There's nothing worse than trying to use equipment in a hurry when you really don't know how it should be operated.

You should also write a list of everything that you would like to pack. Ideally, this should be done sometime in advance and could even be reused on multiple camping expeditions. Apart from anything else, it will give you an increased feeling of confidence.

You'll know that you have remembered to pack all of the key elements. Do you know where your camping equipment is currently to be found? By placing it all in one part of the house, you'll find that you can reduce the time required to pack.

As a result, a reasonable amount of preparation can actually lead to a far greater level of flexibility. Failing to prepare may leave you in trouble when faced by poor weather conditions or a lack of facilities. This can ruin any camping trip.

Four Keys to Great Camping

No matter if you are an old hand at camping or just starting out; here are four major keys to having a great camping experience that no one should leave out of their plans. Nothing can ruin your vacation trip faster than finding out that one of these basics has not been fully explored before heading out to camp. The days of jumping in your car and stopping at the first site you see are long gone, so plan ahead. They are easy to plan for, and make a huge difference in your experience as a camper.

Location

Where you campsite is located within the park or even in relation to roads and highways can have a huge impact on your camping experience. I find that some of the best laid out campsites are usually in a State Park. Tenting sites should not be near the RVs in the camping location, as one example of what can really change your camping experience.

If you can, phone and talk to the local camp manager first to be sure you know where it is and what kind of location you are driving to before you go. Many of the camps, especially the state parks, will have a campsite layout map online and many will encourage you to book your camping site ahead of time to ensure a good spot.

Water Source

Is there water available to you? Is the water that is proved potable (which means can you drink it directly from the tap)? Dont assume this is so, as some camping locations are dry meaning that they dont provide running water. Going down to the local river may sound romantic until you have to get up some morning and walk down to the river for water for your coffee. Again, online layouts of the campsite should show you where water spigots are located and if your camp is a dry site.

Terrain

You may not think of this on a sunny day when you arrive, but does your site have good drainage in case of rain? I have been surprised a time or two by unexpected rain, especially at night. You dont want a river running through your tent. On the other hand, does your campsite have a shady section in case it gets hot? Summer camping can sometimes be a bear when your tent feels like an oven. A tree will also screen you from the neighbor tents and give you some privacy.

Good Equipment

This sounds like a given but having a tent that doesnt leak and a cooking stove you can easily light and use make a big difference in your camping experience. There are a wide variety of places you can go for this, but if you are starting out you dont want to spend a lot of money to see if you like camping. On the other hand, if you are an experienced camper who is looking to broaden your experience by adding backpacking or perhaps you want to add some great cook wear to your equipment, online is a great way to explore what is out there and compare prices. For a great overview of all your options on equipment for camping, check out http://cheapcampingequipment.org/
